It will be coloured blue and will have a Wi-Fi symbol on the right hand side. On the other players's devices, hit 'Play', wait for a few seconds, and you should see a remote server in the world list. Similarly, Android users can go into Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and pick a connection. For iOS users, open the Settings app, choose Wi-Fi, and make sure both devices are connected to the same network. Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi connection. But for now, get together and start exploring.

Some sources say 10 - you'll have to tell us how many can join the same server. It's hard to tell how many players can mine and craft at the same time.
